I can't believe it's already August! It's still summer, but the end is near. Back to school stuff has been out for months and I've even seen Halloween, and yes, Christmas items at various retailers.
While summer may feel like it's on its way out, we still have a couple of downtown events that should make the entire family feel like the season has just begun.
This Friday, Aug. 7, is First Friday in downtown Mount Vernon. The theme is Paws on Parade. There will be canines galore with a dog costume parade and pet-centered activities.
The following weekend, Aug. 14-16, the annual Mount Vernon Music & Arts Festival takes place. There will be live performances, magic acts, kid fest, make-and-take activities, and so much more. Talented chalk artists will create artwork outside of Sweet Street on Saturday between noon and 3 pm.
Our family-run candy store had its official ribbon cutting and grand opening last week. I know we've been open for a few months now, but we finally had new paint on the building, new signs, lots of new candy and sodas, and two great additions - the Candy Bits machine and our internet-viral Dino DNA bubbler that has garnered more than 4 million views!
Thanks to everyone who has supported us. We really appreciate it. If you haven't made it in yet, we're open every day and located right on the Square. Stop in to say hi and see if we carry your all-time favorite. Or try something new and different. And please, let us know what you'd like to see us add.
